Alberta Taiwan Business

Taiwan is one of Alberta's important business partners in both trade and investment. It has a market of 23 million people, and is one of the most active investors in China.

Taiwan not only offers a market of 23 million people, but it is also the ideal partner for entering the vast market in China. Many companies in China, especially the electronic manufacturers are Taiwanese companies with most of their corporate headquarters in Taiwan. Taiwanese companies have been doing business in China for over 15 years. The first phase were those of traditional industries and until now the electronic and IC industries.

Sharing a common Chinese cultural background, as well as speaking the same language, offers advantages to Taiwanese businessmen to enter the China market. Taiwan business people have extended experience and understanding of doing business internationally. This makes Taiwan a valuable partner for pursuing opportunities in the China marketplace.

Taiwan is known as the Asian Silicon Valley. Many technology companies have moved their production lines to China, while keeping key component production facilities, R&D centres and corporate headquarters in Taiwan. As Taiwan's economy continues to evolve, emerging industries include biotechnology, digital content, wireless communication and optical-electronics.

Taiwan has been a World Trade Organization [WTO] member since January 2002. The WTO accession brings trading opportunities for Alberta products into the Taiwan market. As much as price competitiveness is concerned, Alberta products should find its niche to the market with product quality and creative product ideas - including packaging and product design.
