Regional Development

Alberta's regions reflect the province's distinct natural and geographical makeup, from the timeless majesty of the mountains to the wide open promise of the prairies. The natural landscape found in each region shapes the cultural and industrial makeup of that region.

Each of the regions also represents a particular cross-section of both Alberta's urban and rural municipalities and the province's diverse ethno-cultural population. As a result, each region boasts a unique cultural flavour expressed in local art and entertainment, culinary fare, recreational activities, community traditions and warm hospitality.

The Government of Alberta shares a dynamic partnership with municipalities and industries throughout the province, and works to ensure continued, sustainable prosperity in each of Alberta's regions. This ongoing partnership is expressed at both the provincial and municipal level through Regional Economic Development Alliances (REDAs), and numerous community economic development (CED) initiatives.
