Lean Manufacturing

How Lean fits STP

Securing Tomorrow's Prosperity (STP) is a strategic policy framework to help Alberta respond to increasing global challenges. It is the economic pillar of government's strategic plan for the next 20 years.

Lean processes and methodologies are an integral component in the Alberta Government's initiative for Securing Tomorrow's Prosperity. Lean integrates tightly into each of the four pillars of this initiative:

  • Build innovation capacity
Lean methodologies help industries achieve their goals to become more competitive, productive, and innovative.

  • Focus on priority value-added sectors
Lean thinking helps Alberta to continuously improve its competitive position internationally. Lean methods help to ensure that Alberta has a knowledge ready workforce, enhance the business climate, and maximize the benefits of our infrastructure investments.

  • Enhance Alberta's competitive advantages
Lean methods can improve the productivity and competitiveness of all the priority value-added sectors of the Alberta economy.

  • Grow and strengthen small and medium enterprises (SMEs)
Lean methods can effectively sustain the growth and competitiveness of Alberta's small and medium size enterprises.

Implementing a Lean Enterprise Program will build the capacity of Alberta's innovation system, and grow and strengthen small and medium-sized enterprises. For more information, visit:
