Mexico and Alberta share a healthy trading relationship, with $1.5 billion (CAD) in bilateral trade in 2007. Of this amount, Alberta's exports to Mexico were valued at $766 million, and Mexico's exports to Alberta accounted for $730 million, according to "World Trade Atlas". Mexico is Alberta's fourth largest export market. Mexico is also one of Alberta's fastest growing major export markets. The province's exports to Mexico were up 21% in 2007 over 2006, and Alberta's exports to Mexico have grown over 700% since implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in 1994.

The Alberta Mexico Office was founded in 2002 to stimulate economic development, trade, and investment between the Province of Alberta and Mexico.
