The Alberta economy is well-positioned to capitalize on the recent signs of recovery in the world economy.

2010 in review

Alberta exported a total of $77.8 billion worth of goods in 2010. This was an increase of 11% from $69.9 billion in 2009.

  • Energy exports increased 16% from $48 billion in 2009, to $55.6 billion in 2010 
  • Non-energy exports increased from $22.1 billion in 2009 to $22.3 billion in 2010, a change of 0.7%.
  • Alberta exported 21% of Canada's total exports in 2010
  • Alberta has been Canada's second largest provincial exporter since 2005  

Alberta’s top export industries were:

  • Mining and energy
  • Manufacturing (particularly plastics, machinery, chemicals, food and beverages)
  • Primary agricultural products

Alberta goods were imported by 192 countries. The top five export markets (in order) were:

  • United States
  • China
  • Japan
  • European Union
  • Mexico
