Hiring foreign workers in Canada – information for employers
Employers must obtain a positive Labour Market Opinion (LMO) from Service Canada to show there is a need for a foreign worker to fill a given position. This is the first step to hiring a foreign worker. For more information visit the Government of Canada website:
Recognition of qualifications – information for workers
If you are educated and trained outside of Alberta and need certification to work in your occupation in Alberta, you will need to have your credentials assessed to determine how well you meet the standards for that occupation in Alberta. An assessment may involve comparing your qualifications to similar qualifications in Alberta and Canada.
Using employment agencies in Alberta and Canada
Recruitment agencies and labour brokers cannot charge a job placement fee to a foreign worker. In Alberta it is illegal to charge a job placement fee to any worker. For more information, see:
