International graduates

Purpose

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) will consider an Alberta employer's business case to fill a skill shortage with international graduates. The International Graduate category of the ANIP is intended for skilled occupations for which formal education and/or specialized training in the intended occupation is undertaken. These occupations are defined as Skill Level 0, A, or B under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) Code.

Criteria for AINP Candidates under the International Graduate Category (includes but is not limited to):

  • If education is completed in Alberta the international graduate must have obtained a diploma, degree, or have completed a graduate level program from a publicly funded community college, trade/technical school or university, or at a private institution authorized by provincial statute to confer degrees.
     
  • AINP approved Alberta public and private post-secondary institutions.
     
  • If education is completed from outside of Alberta, but from within Canada the international graduate must have obtained a diploma, degree, graduate level program from a publicly funded community college, trade/technical school or university.
     
  • The educational program must have been a minimum of two years in duration at the undergraduate level or a minimum of one year at the graduate level.
     
  • The international graduate must have secured permanent full-time employment with an Alberta employer.
     
  • The international graduate must be employed with that employer on a post-graduate work permit for a minimum of six months in a skilled occupation related to their field of study prior to applying to the AINP.
