Retention via the Provincial Nominee Program
The Alberta Provincial Nominee Program is designed to assist Alberta employers in attracting and retaining skilled workers. It also facilitates the process of becoming a permanent resident for workers who have the skills the Alberta economy needs and want to remain in Canada. The PN Program is a permanent resident program administered and managed by the province of Alberta and the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). The program is an entirely employer-driven program, which means that foreign workers cannot apply directly to the program - they have to be nominated for a permanent resident status by their Alberta employer.
The Alberta employers who are unable to fill occupations critical to the Alberta economy with Canadian citizens or permanent residents may decide to attract and retain foreign workers by applying for the PN Program. Currently, the PNP has several streams / categories:
- Skilled workers
- International graduates
- Semi-skilled workers
- Food and beverage processing industry
- Hotel and lodging industry
- Manufacturing industry
- Trucking industry
- Self-employed farmers
The PNP is also designed to expedite the processing of an application for permanent residence. PNP applications have a priority processing in Canadian visa posts across the world.
The program's steps are described in detail on the Alberta Provincial Nominee Program section of this website.
