The move to a new country is often very challenging. However, if you decide to move to Alberta you can count on the hospitality of Albertans. People here are friendly and very supportive of newcomers:

• Alberta’s population is 3.5 million, but 100 years ago it was about one tenth that. In a sense, most people in Alberta are newcomers themselves.
   
• Most people realize that the hopes and plans of Albertans will only be achieved with the participation of newcomers.

Alberta provides many programs to help new immigrants start a new life. Our province is multicultural and has a number of established cultural and ethnic groups. They provide support and assistance to newcomers and make them feel welcomed and at home.

Spirit of Alberta: Alberta’s cultural policy

The Government of Alberta is also proud of our province's unique and vibrant culture, and wants to see it continue to grow and flourish. To achieve this, a cultural policy entitled The Spirit of Alberta has been developed. The Spirit of Alberta supports the growth and development of an environment where cultural expressions and distinctiveness are celebrated.
