New impulses to the cooperation between Bavaria and Alberta in the innovation technology sector - June 8, 2010

Alberta and North-Rhine-Westphalia consult about CO2 capture and storage projects, March 2010

The Province of Alberta and the State of North-Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) have discussed ways to cooperate in the development of new CO2 capture and storage projects in Western Canada. The seminar was held on March 22, 2010 in Dusseldorf. High-level representatives from Alberta companies were present to introduce the planned CO2 capture and storage projects.

Numerous companies from North-Rhine-Westphalia took part in the event hosted by the Chamber of Crafts in Dusseldorf. On the Canadian side, the Parliamentary Sectretary of Energy in Alberta, Diana McQueen, and the Canadian Ambassador to Germany, Dr. Peter Boehm were present. The seminar was put together with the help of the Government of Alberta, the Canadian Consulate Dusseldorf and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy of the State NRW. It was part of their cluster 'Energy. Region. NRW Network Power Technology' initiative. The seminar was focused on Alberta’s initiatives on carbon capture and storage and three of the four large projects that are currently under way and should be implemented by 2015.

The government of the Province of Alberta and the Government of Canada recently provided funding in the amount of $ 2.65 billon for CO2 projects, with two billion coming from the Province of Alberta, and 650 million coming from the Government of Canada.

'Canada is a leader in CO2 capture,' said the Canadian Ambassador. 'This technology allows us to maintain a balance between our need for energy and our commitment towards the environment.'
