Alberta is highly regarded for its capabilities in the aerospace industry, especially in the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) sector. With this expertise, Alberta's aerospace professionals are extending the life of a wide range of aircraft.
- L-3 Communications Spar Aerospace Limited, the North American certified C-130 Hercules overhaul and modernization facility in Edmonton, Alberta, provides MRO services together with engineered and prototyped life extension structural and mission upgrades to global customers.
- Field Aviation and 25 other MRO companies in Calgary are working to develop a cluster of expertise in after-market products and services.
- In addition, Alberta has a number of world-class defence electronics companies including Raytheon and General Dynamics.

Art Smith Aero Centre for Training & Technology - SAIT (Calgary, Alberta)
In 2004, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) opened a new educational facility at the Calgary International Airport, the Art Smith Aero Centre for Training & Technology. The Centre features a 21,000 square foot hangar and several aircraft, including a 737.
SAIT offers three aviation-related training programs:
- aircraft maintenance engineering technology
- aircraft structures technician
- avionics technology
SAIT also offers customized training for the aerospace industry.
