Research technology and commercialization
The emerging aerospace, aviation and Unmanned Vehicle Systems (UVS) sector in Alberta, Canada thrives through support by an established research infrastructure.
Aerospace
-
The Aerospace Engineering Test Establishment (AETE)
Part of the Canadian Flight Test Centre for the Department of national Defence, the AETE performs flight test and engineering evaluations of aerospace products.
AETE tests the operational effectiveness and airworthiness of new systems for the Canadian Air Force (CAF), other military organizations and private industry. The evaluation of aviation life support equipment, escape systems, night vision imaging systems and electromagnetic compatibility are some of AETE's specialties.
AETE also operates the Primrose Lake Evaluation Range (PLER), which covers 455 square kilometres and is one of the best instrumented test ranges in the world. PLER offers three drop zones, weather service with radiosondes, a video theodolite constellation, radar tracking, S-band air-to-ground data collection and telemetry.
