Bitumen Royalty In Kind (BRIK)
Alberta EnergyAs the resource owner, the Government of Alberta is entitled to take its royalty share of bitumen production as physical barrels rather than in cash payments. The Government’s bitumen royalty volumes will be a significant and growing source of reliable hydrocarbon feedstock for value-added processing in Alberta.
After an RFP process for project proposals that would utilize the Government’s bitumen royalty barrels to add value to the resource in the Province in order to diversify our product and market potential, the Province has begun negotiations for a new bitumen refinery project in Alberta's Industrial Heartland, northeast of Edmonton.
More information about bitumen royalty-in-kind is available at http://www.energy.alberta.ca/BRIK.asp
