Alberta has a dynamic and innovative business climate, as shown by growth in the number of small businesses. Leading Canada in the increase of small businesses (defined as business establishments with less than 50 employees), Alberta enjoyed a 15.5% increase or 19,324 business establishments between 2000 and 2010.
For the same period, the province’s increase of businesses with less than 10 employees was also the highest at 19% compared to the Canadian average of 6.7%.
