- Energy exports increased 16% from $48.0 billion in 2009 to $55.6 billion in 2010 and were the most significant cause of Alberta's improved export performance.
- Alberta's non-energy exports increased from $22.1 billion to $22.3 billion, a change of 0.7%.

- Canada's exports in 2010 increased 12% from $334.6 billion in 2009 to $373.3 billion.
Export Markets
- The U.S. is Alberta's most important export market. In 2010, the U.S. consumed $67.4 billion worth of Alberta's goods, or 87% of the total.
- After North America, Alberta's most important export region was the Asia-Pacific region, which received over 61% of Alberta's non-U.S. exports (in dollar terms).
- China was Alberta's largest export market in the region and the second largest market overall at $2.8 billion in 2010.
- Alberta's next most important region in 2010 was Europe. Alberta's exports to the 27 members of the European Union (EU) increased 16% to $1.2 billion.
- Alberta's exports to Latin America and the Caribbean (excluding Mexico) decreased 15% from $860.4 million in 2009 to $731.5 million in 2010.
Export Sectors
- Energy continued to be Alberta's most important export sector and accounted for 71% of the total value of Alberta's exports in 2010.
- Agricultural exports decreased 10% from $7.4 billion in 2009 to $6.7 billion in 2010.
- Chemicals and plastics exports increased 16% in value, from $5.5 billion to $6.4 billion in 2010.
- Exports of manufactured goods decreased from $5.3 billion in 2009 to $4.7 billion in 2010, a decline of 10%.
- Forestry exports increased 22% to $2.3 billion in 2010.
